Isaiah Washington

“Grey’s Anatomy” star Washington used anti-gay slurs when arguing with his co-stars on the show, specifically in reference to actor T.R. Knight. This was ironic since Washington portrayed a gay character in the 1996 movie “Get on the Bus.” However, in 2008, Washington publicly opposed Proposition 8, the anti-same sex marriage amendment.

Steve Austin

The former professional wrestler made some comments in his wrestling days that could have been interpreted as homophobic, which is why audiences were surprised when in 2014, on his NSFW podcast, Austin made some rather pointed (and definitely not safe for work) comments in support of gay marriage. NSFW (Not Safe For Work) is an acronym used to describe Internet content generally inappropriate for the typical workplace.

Hillary Clinton

Clinton once supported then-President Bill Clinton’s decision to sign the Defense of Marriage act that stated marriage should be between a man and a woman. Hillary has received a lot of backlash from the media lately for taking too long to change her stance on the matter. That being said, she has changed her stance on it.

50 Cent

In 2010 the rapper sent out a tweet that encouraged homosexuals to commit suicide. Then 50 Cent tried to back peddle and say the tweet wasn’t homophobic, but barely a month later he tweeted saying he had his friend “shoot up a gay wedding” and that it made him happy. In 2012 he said he was behind U.S. President Barack Obama’s support of same-sex marriages.

Tracy Morgan

While doing standup in Nashville, Tennessee, Morgan made a remark about the violent way he’d react if his son behaved or spoke in a “gay” manner and he tried to insist that being gay is a choice. Within months, Morgan teamed up with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to support gay rights.

Dick Cheney

Former U.S. Vice President Cheney used to take a hard stance against gay marriage. The matter took on a whole new life in his family after his daughter came out as gay, and his sister—Liz Cheney—who at one point was running for Senate in Wyoming, made openly anti-gay remarks. Dick has since said he believes gay marriage rights should be a decision that each state makes on its own, and he issued a statement expressing remorse over his sister’s anti-gay statements.

Laura Bush

The former first lady supported her husband, President George W. Bush, when he was in office in his stance that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Chris Brown

In 2013, the singer was charged with felony assault and reports show that a series of homophobic slurs led to the violence. Brown allegedly insinuated a man was gay for trying to get in a photo with the rapper, and then he proceeded to punch the man in the face. Later that year, Brown offered his support to a gay rights campaign in Africa and tweeted “Love is not a crime. Gay or straight. Love who u wanna love.”

Blake Shelton

In 2011, the host of “The Voice” sent out a tweet he claims was meant to be a joke, altering some of the lyrics in a Shania Twain song into words that sound violently against homosexuality. GLAAD demanded Shelton apologize, reminding him that many of his fans of the show “The Voice” are part of the gay community. Shelton apologized and in 2013 got into a very public Twitter feud with a church that fiercely opposes gay rights.
