Kenya Cycling Camp Edges Toward Producing Winning Team

Kenya Cycling Camp Edges Toward Producing Winning Team

Six years ago, a cycling camp was set up in Kenya with hopes to groom promising athletes. Now, according to CCTV Africa, the ‘fruits’ of camp founder Nicholas Leong’s labor are near tangible. With 16 riders, three of the team members are heightening anticipation of the cyclers’ emergence by participating in Glasgow’s Commonwealth Games.

“Initially it was challenging. Year after year they get the nuances of the race more and more. Now they realize, ‘Okay, right. This is a real sport,'” Leong said in the report. “Then they go to the tour of Rwanda and we finish in the podium in third and fourth. The culture’s slowly building. It has to start somewhere.”
