More than 100 residents of Somangila ward at Kigamboni do not have homes following demolition of their houses to pave way for a modern housing scheme for security organs.
The housing project at Amani Gomvu, which is now in its first phase is being implemented by the Avic Coastal Land Development Co. Ltd.
The houses to be constructed would be for officers of the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) and other security organs.
Some of the homeless residents who spoke to journalists recently said they now live with hardship, seeking help from neighbours especially for accommodation. Mr Yusuph Hamidu, one of the victims, said the demolition was a result of their refusal to compensation which he said was too small.
