Hisense Introduces Low-Cost Smartphones, Honors Local Manufacturing in SA

Chinese electronics maker Hisense has made it’s way into South Africa’s manufacturing landscape. Producing TVs and smartphones locally for about a year, the company’s next ambitions entail the introduction of low-cost electronics — and the takeover of Africa’s middle class, according to CCTV Africa.

“I think because some companies are considering to move out of South Africa and they’re moving in, which is good for us,” Lisette De Schepper, a Bureau of Economic Research economist said about the benefit of Hisense’s presence in South Africa.

“It is a big market, it’s an expanding market. We’re called the gateway to Africa, which I think is a valid point.
