AFKInsider recently caught up with East African-American singer Somi, who aside from her upcoming album, The Lagos Music Salon, talked about the business of the music industry. Starting out by venturing into her background and influences in music, Somi also spoke about navigating and capitalizing on opportunities as an independent artist.

“In the U.S., we’ve had this industry established for several decades at this point. If you look at the legacy of recorded music that’s been happening out of the U.S., that already sets it apart from what’s happening in Nigeria,” Somi said in regards to the differences in international music scenes.
