Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who made a miraculous recovery after being shot in the head by the Taliban, praised efforts made by Nigerian campaigners to raise awareness around the abduction of more than 200 girls by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Speaking during a visit to the country, where she met with parents of the kidnapped girls and some of the kidnapped girls who escaped from Boko Haram. The 17-year-old, who is now a women’s rights campaigner, travelled to Nigeria to help draw attention to their cause.

Malala said: “We express our solidarity with you and we are with you. We are standing up with you in your campaign to #BringBackOurGirls, bring back out daughters, because they are my sisters … and I’m going to speak for them until they are released.”
