The European Union has announced it will give Angola $1.1 billion for water and sanitation projects in Angola over a period of seven years, according to Jornal de Angola, citing Head of Social Development and Infrastructures Miguel Varela.

“The funding includes technical assistance to boost the quality of piped water and improve systems to manage the resource, the state-run newspaper cited Angola’s National Director of Water Lucrecio Costa as saying,” reports Business Week.

Currently, about half the Angola’s population of 21 million has access to safe water supplies and 30 percent to sanitation, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund.
