Inflation in Burundi Experiences 1.4 Pct Dip

Burundi’s annual inflation slowed to 3.4 percent in May from 4.8 percent in April as prices for housing, water, and electricity declined, official data showed on Wednesday.

Housing, water and electricity inflation slipped to 4.2 percent in the year to May from 8.1 percent in April, the Institute of Economic Studies and Statistics (ISTEEBU) said in its monthly report.

A mission from the International Monetary Fund, which visited the small east African country two weeks ago, said heavy floods early this year that damaged major transport routes might contribute to an uptick in inflation.
