Egyptians Detained For Rallying Against Anti-Protest Law

For almost one year beginning in July 2013, while interim president of Egypt, Adly Mansour enacted an anti-protest law. Activists and political advocates would need a permit to protest — otherwise they could face the consequences of being arrested or jailed. According to an Aswat Masriya report, Saturday June 21, 24 people were detained for protesting the law. Activists told CCTV Africa that they are disregarding the officiality of the law.

“We want to remove the protest law and release about 41,000 opinion prisoners in Egypt. It’s clear the law is not constitutional. This is what we say, but the regime never listened,” Mohamed Kamal told CCTV Africa.

“An administrative verdict agreed and sent the law to be revised by the constitutional court. The problem there is that the law will be revised by the man who formed it, former president Adly Mansour,” he said.
