Jennifer Lawrence has quickly become Hollywood’s sweetheart, both for her amazing talent and refreshingly down-to-earth personality. The 23-year-old is best known for her role as Katness Everdeen in the blockbuster “Hunger Games” franchise, as well as for her award-winning roles in “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle.” Here are 10 things you didn’t know about Jennifer Lawrence.

She was in New York with her family while on spring break, interviewing at talent agencies when a model scout agent asked to take her picture while she was strolling through Union Square with her mother. Luckily, the scout was legitimate. It kick-started Lawrence’s career!
When she was little, Lawrence played a prostitute from Nineveh in a church play about the Book of Jonah. In an interview with “Louisville Magazine,” her mother fondly reflected on how Jennifer, then 9, approached the role. “The little extra just took over,” she said. “She played the best prostitute.”

During an interview with “Vogue,” Lawrence discussed difficulties she had as a child, and admitted that she was in therapy and on medication. She said, “I was a weirdo. I’ve always just had this weird anxiety. I hated recess. I didn’t like field trips. Parties really stressed me out. And I had a very different sense of humor.”

Her family were big animal lovers, and Lawrence grew up around horses in Kentucky alongside her two older brothers. The family actually raised unbroken stallions in an effort to save money, and Lawrence frequently recounts the number of times she was thrown off the back of one of her family’s horses.
Despite her anxiety, Lawrence was extremely talkative as a child, and was voted “Most Talkative” in her class during the seventh grade. It’s not surprising, if you’ve ever seen one of her interviews!
In a deal she made with her parents, Lawrence graduated from high school two years early with a 3.9 GPA so she could pursue acting. She returned to New York at age 16 and began to pick up a gigs including an Abercrombie & Fitch ad and a Burger King commercial.
Lawrence’s mother ran a children’s summer day camp, where Jennifer served as an assistant nurse when she was growing up or between acting jobs. The camp is now run by one of her brothers.
Lawrence auditioned for the lead role of Bella Swan in the “Twilight” series, but Kristen Stewart got the part. Later on, Lawrence in an interview she said she was glad she didn’t get the part, especially in light of the immense amount of media attention that Stewart received.
Growing up, Lawrence was never seriously involved in theater, and has never once taken an acting class. During an interview, she explained her methods. “I’ve always studied people and been fascinated by their reactions and feelings. And I think that’s the best acting class you can take — watching real people, listening to them and studying them.”

Justine and Jennifer met shortly after Jennifer wrapped up shooting for “Winter’s Bone” in Los Angeles. They quickly hit it off. Justine works for Jennifer as her assistant, and helps the 23-year-old to do “normal” things, such as just hanging out with friends in her otherwise-hectic life.
