Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg’s many roles in violent movies such as “The Departed” might be more art-imitating-life than we realized. When the actor was 16, he was charged with attempted murder after leaving a man blind following an assault. Wahlberg pled guilty to assault and went to jail for 45 days.

Ray Lewis

The NFL star of the Baltimore Ravens, Ray Lewis was charged with the murder of two men. After a night of clubbing with a group friends in January of 2000, Lewis got into a brawl with another group of men, which ended in two men from the opposing group being stabbed to death. Lewis was first charged with two counts of murder, but in exchange for testimonies against two of his friends with him that night, he got off on obstruction of justice.

Michael Jace

The actor from “The Shield” was arrested this year after domestic violence and charged with shooting his wife to death. Jace was ordered to remain in jail in lieu of $2 million bail while awaiting arraignment, scheduled for Aug. 15.

Mike Danton

NHL player Mike Danton, currently playing for an ice hockey team in Sanok, Poland — the Ciarko PBS Bank KH Sanok, — was charged with conspiracy to murder after he planned to hire a hitman to kill his agent David Frost. The criminal complaint filed reported there might have been some “promiscuity” happening between Danton and Frost. Danton pled guilty to his charges and was sentenced to five years in prison. He was released on parole on Sept. 11, 2009 after 63 months in jail. The original sentence was 90 months.

Cassidy

Rapper Cassidy has a slew of charges against him including murder, attempted murder, reckless endangerment, weapons possession and conspiracy. After firing at a group of unarmed men in 2005, Cassidy was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison.

Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg, along with his bodyguard, was charged with killing a man in 1993. Prosecutors say that the quarrel was between a “hotheaded gang member who was angry that the rapper had moved into his territory,” but they did not confirm if the rapper himself was in a gang. Snoop’s bodyguard was acquitted rather quickly — he proved he only shot out of self defense –but the trial went on for Snoop for another three years. In 1996, Snoop Dogg was charged with voluntary manslaughter and conspiracy after the fact — he was found trying to destroy evidence from the night of the incident.

Sid Vicious

Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols lived up to his stage name after stabbing his girlfriend to death in 1979. Vicious was on drugs right after the murder, and confessed immediately. He died seven weeks later of a heroin overdose.

Phil Spector

Record producer Phil Spector went to trial twice for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson: first in 2003, after which Spector managed to stay out of jail on bond for almost six years. He was tried again starting in 2008 and he was finally convicted in 2009, and given 19 years to life for murder.

Oscar Pistorius

Olympic runner Oscar Pistorius was charged for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day, 2013. Pistorius claims he thought his girlfriend was an intruder. After a psychiatrist testified saying Pistorius suffers from an anxiety disorder, the trial was put on hold so he could be evaluated. Closing arguments wrapped up last week. Now it’s up to the judge. Sentencing is set for Sept. 11.

Johnny Lewis

Lewis is best known for his role as “Half-Sack” in the FX series “Sons of Anarchy.” In 2012, Lewis and his landlord were found dead at the landlord’s home: she had been bludgeoned to death and Lewis had apparently fallen over the balcony. Lewis had a reputation for breaking into people’s homes while under the influence of drugs and assaulting them. Lewis died before charges were filed.

Keith Moon

The drummer for the English band the Who accidentally killed his own driver in 1970. Some patrons of a pub were harassing Moon and his family as they got into their car. Moon’s driver, Neil Boland, got out of the car to confront the patrons. Moon, who was intoxicated at the time, took the wheel and drove away from the scene, without realizing he had run over Boland. Moon was charged with the death of Boland, as well as driving under the influence. Moon pleaded guilty.

Matthew Broderick

In 1987, when the “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” star was on vacation in Ireland with his co-star and then-girlfriend Jennifer Grey, Broderick accidentally killed two people in a head on collision. Some reports say that Broderick was accidentally driving on the right side of the road, out of American habit, when his car collided head on with another car, killing both the driver and passenger inside. Broderick was originally charged with killing the passengers in the car and faced up to five years in prison, but got off with charges of careless driving and a very small fine.

Rebecca Gayheart

In 2001, the “Urban Legend” actress was charged with a manslaughter charge after hitting a 9-year-old boy with her car. Gayheart plead no contest, and was given three years’ probation, a one-year suspension of her license, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service.

Robert Blake

In 2002, the “In Cold Blood” actor was charged with the murder of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley. Blake was also charged with solicitation of murder, as he sought out help in killing his wife, and his bodyguard (whom Blake solicited for the help) was charged with conspiracy to murder. Blake was acquitted in 2005, but later in 2005 was found liable for his wife’s wrongful death.

Felicia Pearson

The actress from “The Wire” relates to her character on the show—a killer for a drug gang—more than you may have realized. Pearson was convicted of second-degree murder at the age of 14 and she was given two eight-year sentences, but only served five years. Just three years ago, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Aaron Hernandez

The former NFL tight end is currently being held without bail following the indictment of three murder charges, those of Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu—two housecleaners from Cape Verde—and that of Odin L. Lloyd, a linebacker for a semi-professional football team. Hernandez’ trial is set for early 2015.

John Landis

In 1987, the “Twilight Zone” director was charged with involuntary manslaughter of three extras on set of his movie, two of which were children. A helicopter being used in a scene was hit by a special effect, falling from the sky and crushing the extras. Landis was found not guilty but he did pay several million dollars to each of the victims’ families.
