Will Africa Have Any Female Presidents By 2017?

Until recently there were only three female presidents in Africa. But there could be none by 2017. eNCA TV says while Malawi’s Joyce Banda was dismantled from the presidency in rather unceremonious manner last week, her compatriots in Liberia (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf) and Central African Republic (Catherine Samba-Panza) are not faring well either.

Calls are mounting for both Sirleaf and Samba-Panza (CAR interim president) to step down. Sirleaf’s second term expires in 2017, but the country’s powerful opposition is getting impatient with here rule and want her to resign before then on allegation of rampant corruption within her administration.

Calls for resignation have also been made to CAR’s Catherine Samba Panza by the country’s youth groups who feel she has not done enough to stop the religious violence between Christians and Muslims that now threatens to degenerate into a genocide.
