President Goodluck Jonathan Still Against Boko Haram Negotiation

Last month, Boko Haram proposed that in exchange for the prison release of group members and affiliates, they would give back the more than 200 kidnapped school girls. According to CCTV Africa, President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he will not comply with a negotiation. Analysts believe that because Boko Haram hasn’t proven to be trustworthy, and bases violence off of religion, President Jonathan is right.

“The question Nigeria should be asking is this, conflict resolution expert Ladi Thompson said, “does it make sense to negotiate with terrorists, especially extremists?”

“The girls that I spoke to — I spoke to their uncles, I spoke to their parents,” he said. “One of the girls — when she was in that horrible forest — was being assaulted by different men…and sexually abused on a daily basis. “
