A U.K. spy plane sent to help search for more than 200 girls abducted by militant Islamists in Nigeria developed a technical fault and was forced to land in Senegal for repairs, the Ministry of Defence said, according to Reuters in a TodayWorldNews video.

The plane left the U.K. on Sunday, joining an international effort to secure the girls’ release, the report said. Its breakdown is a setback for the U.K. government which promised to do all it can to help with the search operation, said the BBC’s Will Ross in Nigeria.

Israel has sent intelligence experts and specialists in hostage negotiations to help with the rescue effort.

The U.S. military is flying manned and unmanned surveillance aircraft over Nigeria to look for the girls, Reuters reports.

Boko Haram abducted more than 200 schoolgirls April 14 from their boarding school in Chibok, Northeast Nigeria. It said it would consider releasing some of them in exchange for jailed militants.
