South Sudan Government Accuses US of Fueling Conflict

The government of South Sudan has accused the US  and several western countries for fuelling the ongoing conflict in the beleaguered country, CCTV Africa reported on Thursday. The allegations, coming ahead of the peace talks slated for Addis Ababa, were made by Africa’s newest nation Information Minister Michael Lueth, who said western nations are supporting the rebels so that they can be able to take over the oil fields.

Juba believes that the West and especially the US wants an administration in place that can help them wrest the control of oil resources from Chinese firms, Lueth told CCTV Africa. He said that the west has shown bias in the conflict and reiterated his president’s remarks that the cessation of hostility agreement signed last week was under duress.

“Well Americans are one of them. They have vested interests in South Sudan and they believe that why should the Chinese be there,” Lueth said in a TV interview with CCTV Africa after a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya.
