Suspected Terrorists Rounded Up In Nigeria Before World Economic Forum

Suspected terrorists have been rounded up across Nigeria over fears of sabotage at the World Economic Forum, scheduled to begin in the capital of Abuja Wednesday, APA reports.

The three-day forum is expected to attract political and business leaders from across the world to discuss Africa’s economic growth prospects, according to StarAfrica.com.

Nigeria has intensified its crackdown on “possible anarchists,” Nigerian security sources told APA.

Mohammed Abubakar, Nigeria’s inspector general of police,
ordered the security measures in Abuja and surrounding areas following last week’s bombing of a motor park in Abuja that killed 16 people.

The Islamist militant group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the blast and an earlier one in April in the Nyanya district of Abuja that claimed 70 lives.

Boko Haram has been behind a cycle of violence in Nigeria since 2009, including the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls from a school in Chibok, Borno State. The terrorist group is against Western education.

Men and satellite equipment have been deployed in the
center of Abuja and nearby towns to beef up security before, during and after the forum, according to the report.
