AMISOM Defense Efforts Leave Thousands of Somalians Displaced

According to CCTV Africa, elderly, sick and even expecting mothers have been forced out of their homes and given an internally displaced persons (IDPs) titile because of Al-Shabaab defense efforts. The peacekeeping mission African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), although aiding villages, is contributing to an influx of IDPs in Mogadishu camps, the report said.

“We’ve been forced out by the ongoing war. I have four kids with me here and I don’t know where my husband is. We need immediate help,” Fatuma Ali, an IDP told CCTV Africa.

Sidi Ahmed, another IDP commented on the lack of resources saying, “we need food and water, but more importantly we need medicine. I have a sick brother here, he cannot even speak. I am not well myself.”

The IDP’s struggle and worsening situation, CCTV Africa reported, has yet to gain widespread attention.
