Sustainable Ghana Enterprise Clean Team Restores Safety, Dignity in Sanitation

Clean Team, a sustainable enterprise in Ghana is on a mission to restore safety and dignity in the country’s sanitation sector. In some areas, women and girls, especially, struggle with finding a decent space to use the restroom — and an area where they feel they won’t be harmed. Established in 2011, Clean Team now provides services to more that 3,500 customers.

“We provide portable household toilets for families that do not have toilets in their homes. Customers do not pay for these toilets, they only pay for the service we render,”Abigail Aruna, Clean Team deputy manager said in a video report. “Waste collectors go to their homes to change the waste cartridges and put in fresh ones for them.”

“Sometimes you have to get up in the middle of the night when you have stomach problems,” Florence Oduru Agyei, a Clean Team Customer said. “Now you don’t have to run across the road. This has really helped us.”
