Are Enviro Drome Greenhouse Systems the Future of Agriculture in Africa?

New agricultural technology in the form of an Enviro Dome Greenhouse System is said to be the future of vegetable production in Ghana and possibly Africa. The farming technique, according to My Joy, will allow for crops to be grown year-round in a controlled environment. This will result in the consumption of safer and higher quality food, the report noted.

The practice has already been adapted in Asia, North and South America in addition to Europe.

At a recent Enviro Drome Greenhouse exhibit in Ghana, officials in agriculture and horticulture research  gathered to discuss to pros and logistics of the new method. Perks include a boost in farmers’ socioeconomic status, lowered pesticide use and employment opportunities. Together, Stevicksen Ventures, the Forest and Horticultural Crops Research Centre (FOHCREC) of the University of Ghana and Beijing’s Eisenberg-Agri introduced the system.

“With this technology, massive employment will be created for our teeming youth. They will export the produce and make more income for themselves and if you start with this method between two and four months you can start harvesting,” Steven Akorli, CEO of Stevicksen Ventures told My Joy.

According to the report, crop professors representing Bayero University, Kano Nigeria have come to Ghana to study the method, which they hope to implement in Nigeria. The Forest and Horticultural Crops Research Centre is open to all in agriculture who want to learn how to manage crops using the Enviro Drome Greenhouse System.

Eventually, Akorli added, Enviro Drome Systems will be placed in the majority of Ghana’s municipal districts.
