An exclusive report by BBC Africa details how stigmatization has pushed HIV positive victims in Uganda to falsify medical reports in order to secure jobs. Several sensitization programs have done little to reduce the negative connotation the conservative east African country has for people living with HIV that causes AIDS.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni passed into law an anti-gay bill last month that has criminalized any homosexual activity in the country and further worked to isolate and stigmatize gay persons living with HIV. Faking HIV results is now the only option out for the affect persons.

“When they hear my story they tend to point fingers … because they don’t understand what somebody is going through. And for quite some time now I haven’t been working because everywhere I go to look for a job they ask me what is my status,” Nicollet Wimana, an HIV victim told BBC Africa.
