Olusegun Obasanjo’s Foundation Launches Feed Africa Initiative

Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has launched an agribusiness initiative that aims to link the continents smallholder farmers with organizations that can help them improve yields and increase food for the continent. Though the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation the ‘Feed Africa Initiative’ program works closely with interested private companies, local and federal levels of government collaborating on improving farm and livestock yields, storage and distribution network improvements.

The program particularly seeks to incentivize the participation of young people in the agriculture sector bringing much needed energy and new skills. The foundation believes that a modern generations of business minded farmers will employ better and higher yielding systems.

“What we believe is that the beginning of food and nutrition security is the availability of food, and availability means adequate production,” Obasanjo said. “If you can feed your family you’ve started the process of feeding Africa.”

“A day will come when we will stop exploiting the oil we have in this nation and the only option we have as youth and a nation is to go back to farming,” Michael Lasisi, a Nigerian farmer said.
