Game Stores In Ghana To Be Rebranded Massmart

African retail shopping outlet Game is being rebranded as Massmart in Ghana and 10 new Massmart locations are planned in the country, GhanaWeb reports.

Massmart, majority owned by U.S.-based consumer goods marketing giant Walmart, took over Game’s operations in 2013.

Game is a subsidiary of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed Massmart Holdings. Massmart is Africa’s third-largest distributor of consumer goods, its leading retailer of general merchandise, liquor and home improvement equipment and supplies, and the leading wholesaler of basic foods, according to Game‘s website.

Internal rebranding is under way at the Game store at Accra Mall, according to GhanaWeb.

The world’s largest retail outlet, Walmart owns 51 percent of Massmart.

The formal entry of Massmart into Ghana will give local consumers access to global brands at low prices, the report says. Massmart’s entry means consumers will be buying Walmart products in the local market.

Massmart Group has nine wholesale and retail chains, and one buying group with 288 stores and 470 buying-group members that focus on high-volume and low-cost distribution.

Massmart operates in 14 sub-Saharan African countries through four operating divisions – Massdiscounters, Masswarehouse, Massbuild and Masscash, according to GhanaWeb.
