The Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) which over the years provided relief, potable water, immunization programmes and first aid to schools and sporting personalities is in financial crises.

Apart from its inability to pay the salaries of the 41-member staff for the past three months, the Society also owes the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) about GHc260, 000 that needs to be settled.

Dr Michael Agyekum Addo, President of the Society announced this when he and a team of officials from the GRCS called on President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House on Tuesday.

The nine- member team that was at the Presidency to present their dwindling fortunes to the President, enumerated a number of programmes the Society was embarking on to revive their financial status.

Dr Addo gave the assurance that they would embark on a membership drive to increase the current volunteer membership of 50,000 to 500,000 to harness available resources for development.

He appealed to government to absorb the salaries of GRCS staff and lead the crusade in generating funds for the Society to continue with its humanitarian activities in the country.

Dr Addo also appealed to President Mahama to lead the crusade in ensuring that all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and their vehicles used first aid kits from the society in the country.
