Nigeria Educational System Needs to be More Lucrative

In a brief video profile, BBC Africa examines how Nigeria’s educational system can be improved. Shadowing a classroom and educator Ajibike Adetayo, the news organization allows the teacher to chime in, offering her personal experience and perspective.

According to Adetayo, the heightening number of street children and low performing students can be attributed to Nigeria’s dysfunctional school system.

“I believe the educational system needs a major overhaul and a major revamp. We need to look at our curriculum and look at what we’re doing wrong,” she told BBC Africa.

“I would say that education is being robbed of it’s best, because it’s not as lucrative as it ought to be. I honestly believe that something should be done about it, so it’s just as attractive as any other profession in Nigeria,” she added, noting that a healthy educational experience extends to the home.
