China Funds $10 Million Vocational Training Center in Liberia

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has broken grounds for the construction of a new US$10 million Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) campus, aimed at helping Liberia achieve its transformative goals.

The new MVTC, covering 6,000 square meters, will include two three-storey buildings – one for teaching and training, and the other for faculty dormitory – and a two-storey student dormitory. The entire project is being financed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the Liberian leader performed the ceremony on Tuesday, May 21, upon her return to the country following official visits to the United States and Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Sirleaf, who in the recent past refrained from attending groundbreaking ceremonies, said she had decided to break her own rule and to attend this one because, upon its completion, “this MVTC extension will help provide the skills needed for private sector jobs, which, in turn, will enhance and promote economic growth and development.”
