The Third Annual Winter On The Rocks concert with Jurassic 5 and Ghostland Observatory was the concert everyone in attendance will remember all year long. If you missed it, then you really missed out. Here’s are 10 reasons why this show at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colo. will go down as one of the best concerts of 2014.
Since Winter on the Rocks is outside, everyone was bundled up and ready to party in their puffers all night despite the cold (and the six inches of fresh snow).
What do you do when you have a concert planned and a ton of snow falls? Enlist the fans. Concert sponsor Icelantic Skis offered free tickets to the first 100 fans to show up with a shovel, ready to get the venue ready for the evening’s epic show. It worked, obviously!
The Red Rocks Amphitheater in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains is a natural wonder. Not only is the experience of concerts under the stars incredible, the sound is also acoustically perfect.
Since the energetic-yet-old-school hip hop group recently reunited at Coachella, this was their first show in Colorado in more than eight years. Crowd favorites like “Concrete Schoolyard” got everyone warmed up pretty quickly despite freezing temps.
The other act on the bill, this duo from Austin, Texas, brought down the house with their catchy combination of electro, rock and funk dance music. In the crowded world of electronic music, Ghostland Observatory has a fresh sound that fans of all genres can appreciate.
It’s tough to scratch smoothly when temperatures are below freezing but the DJs of Jurassic 5 more than pulled it off. The fact that this was basically a giant outdoor dance party in the mountains — and snow — made it an experience concertgoers won’t forget!
With so much snow, parts of the bleachers were icy which meant people were getting creative with their moves. The “slip ‘n slide” move in particular seemed to be popular.
When you’re at an outdoor concert in Colorado in the winter, there’s zero chance of your beer getting warm.
As much as we appreciate the outdoor concert thing (and the cold beer), being able to head over to the fire pit to warm up felt amazing.
No one else dares to throw a concert in the snow sponsored by a true Colorado company. Thanks Icelantic Skis for a great show!
