Kenya’s rating in terms of the ease of doing business worsened last year after the East Africa’s biggest economy appeared to have overlooked key business reform programmes. This comes even as it emerged that Rwanda, the region’s fastest growing economy, had topped the list of 50 world economies which have made significant improvement in business reform initiatives over the last eight (2005-2013) years.

According to the World Bank’s latest Doing Business report (2014), Kenya slipped eight positions, falling to position 129 from 121 last year.  A total of 189 countries were sampled with Singapore being the best country to do business while Chad emerged the worst. It is followed by Uganda and Burundi in third and fourth positions respectively while Tanzania is the worst performer in the region.
