Zimbabwe Hails Women In Business

From allAfrica

Zanu-PF secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed women in business saying they contribute immensely towards the achievement of the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset) which seeks to ensure food security at the smallest unit.

Speaking during a fundraising dinner organized by Midlands Women’s Bank in Kwekwe recently, Cde Mnangagwa said the building of the nation and its economy must start with the smallest unit.

Over 1 000 women in Midlands have benefited from the banking cooperative which has a revolving fund accessed by women who want to venture into business.

The cooperative, initiated by Cde Auxilia Mnangagwa, who is the Senator for Kwekwe-Chirumhanzu, has 450 members.

“The reception of Zim Asset has been impressive. Women have also taken an initiative to start their own income generating projects. What it means is that Zimbabweans have embraced the idea that building a nation starts with the smallest unit which is the family unit. One of the categories of Zim Asset is the food and nutrition cluster.

“Government would want to prioritise food security at the smallest unit to ensure that people have adequate food at household level. This comes through maximum utilization of land to ensure food production,” he said.
