Corey Modeste On What You Don’t Know About Africa, Opportunities [Part 3 of 3]

Written by Makula Dunbar

An investment analyst and director at Greylock Capital Management, Corey Modeste recently sat in on an interview with AFKInsider which analyzed sovereign credit, emerging markets and investment trends in Sub-Saharan Africa. In part three of the interview, Modeste explains how his firm explores small scale investment opportunities — particularly in farming.

“At one point we were looking at a company in Mali that was looking to build cardboard packaging materials. Again, as trivial as something like that sounds, this was a case where many of the farmers in Mali were importing from other countries substandard packing materials,” Modeste said.

“A very simple opportunity for a company to produce locally a product that was easy to ship, easy to produce and easy to deliver to the end consumer — that will ultimately help lower the cost of production for farmers.”
