President Joe Biden’s proposed $3.5 trillion infrastructure plan, “Build Back Better,” has a nice ring to it but a new poll found that most respondents don’t understand the Democrats’ policy plan.
According to a new CBS poll, only 10 percent of respondents describe themselves as knowing many specific things about what’s included in the Build Back Better plan, and a majority admit to either not knowing specifics or not knowing anything at all. That means 90 percent of respondents don’t understand the policy proposals.
When asked specifically about elements of the bill, respondents had heard about the $3.5 trillion cost attached to the bill as well as the proposed tax increases. But fewer knew about the healthcare-related items such as lower Medicare drug prices, or coverage for dental, eye and hearing care, according to CBS.
“Americans don’t know what’s in the Build Back Better plan because the corporate media doesn’t discuss it. Let’s stop the beltway gossip and start talking about lowering prescription drug costs, expanding Medicare, childcare and housing – and combatting climate change,” Democratic Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders tweeted.
Biden said that the lack of knowledge about the plan is due to poor coverage by the mainstream media, not his administration’s fault.
Many journalists covering the White House complain that Biden does not like like to take questions during meetings with the press.
Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones took note of Biden blaming the media. She tweeted, “That would seem to be the fault of us in the media, no?”
The Moguldom Nation CEO Jamarlin Martin tweeted, “The media in a ‘I’m a capitalist in my bones’ society isn’t responsible to sell or explain a partisan agenda. It is to make profit. If the details were profitable, they would be doing a lot of it. Joe Biden & his army of soldiers are responsible for informing the public.”
He added, “So they are saying it’s the MSM’s fault the public doesn’t understand what’s the policy agenda for the President of the United States? What MSM would say no to Joe Biden coming on to answer serious questions about his policy agenda, the details? Biden & Ron Klain are responsible.”
