NBA Star Praised For Explanation On Why He’s Uncomfortable Taking Vaccine, Doesn’t Want It Forced On People

Jonathan Isaac, the Orlando Magic’s only unvaccinated player, has received praise for his explanation on why he “proudly” refuses to get jabbed.

Isaac said he does not see the need for the vaccine right now because he already had covid-19, is physically fit and young, and has natural immunity.

Everyone should be free to choose which medicine they put in their bodies without ridicule, Isaac said, and he is not ashamed to say that he is uncomfortable getting the vaccine.

Just 1 percent of pro basketball players are unvaccinated, including Washington Wizards player Bradley Beal, Golden State Warriors star Andrew Wiggins and Brookly Nets player Kyrie Irving, according to Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Vaccine status should not be forced on people, according to Isaac. He said it should be completely up to them without being bullied or pressured.

Professional athletes who work in the public eye are often ridiculed, even on private matters, regarding their beliefs.

“I am not anti-vax, I’m not anti-medicine, I am not anti-science. I didn’t come to my current stance by studying Black history or watching Donald Trump press conferences,” Isaac said. “I have nothing but the utmost respect for every healthcare worker and person in Orlando and across the world that have worked tirelessly to keep us safe. My mum has worked in healthcare for a really long time.”

Isaac said he is grateful to God that he lives in a society where vaccines are available and people can protect themselves. He said he trusts in Jesus as a healer and protector.

You can still catch covid-19 with the vaccine, according to Isaac. He encourages wearing masks and social distancing to protect against the virus.

“When it comes to my teammates, coaches, everybody, to be honest, no one has really cared. I haven’t had any conversations with teammates on whether I’m vaccinated or not. Or whether they are vaccinated or not,” Isaac said.

NBA star Wiggins, 26, who has played for eight seasons, declined to reveal whether or not he is vaccinated and said his vaccination status is his business.

Anyone over age 12 is required to show proof of vaccination to attend indoor events at Chase Center where the Golden State Warriors play, with the first match scheduled for Oct. 21. Currently, it is not mandatory for NBA players to be vaccinated against covid-19.
