Gun violence in Chicago is out of control and children are often the victims. In fact, more children have been shot in Chicago than have died of covid-19 in the entire U.S., according to a new report.

In the Windy City, 261 children have been shot in 2021, 41 fatally, The New York Post reported.

So far this year, 214 minors under the age of 18 have died of the coronavirus across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Children made up 0 percent to 0.27 percent of all coronavirus deaths in the states reporting data, with seven states reporting zero child deaths, according to the CDC and the American Association of Pediatrics, as reported by The Post Millennial.

In Illinois, just 25 people under 18 have died due to covid, per the Illinois Department of Public Health.

BigD @_MrSerious_ wondered on Twitter what Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was doing about the city’s increasing gun violence. He tweeted, “WTF is this so called mayor of Chicago doing ? Nothing !!!”

Shootings in Chicago have increased in 2021, outpacing last year’s shooting, according to police data. Crime figures by the Chicago Police Department show the city has recorded 524 homicides and 2,344 shootings so far in 2021. Those totals are up 3 percent and 9 percent, respectively, over the same period last year, WTTW reported.

A majority of shooting victims have been Black. The shootings have mainly affected the city’s Black communities and Black men. The country’s third-largest city is comprised of 49.99 percent of whites and 29.62 percent of Black or African Americans, according to the World Population Review.

During Labor Day weekend, 63 Chicagoans were shot, including eight children, according to Fox News

“Where’s the outcry?” Beth Dutton @1BethDutton asked on Twitter.

Among the six victims who died was 4-year-old Mychal Moultry, who was shot on Sept. 3 after a bullet came through the window of his father’s home as he sat inside getting his hair braided, The Daily Mail reported.

On Sept. 6, Chicago Police Superintendent David O. Brown pleaded with the criminals carrying out these crimes, “Why are you continuing to be around young people, our children?”

“You’re harming this community. You’re harming these families,” Brown added. “And we will be relentless in pursuing you as an offender.”
