The chief health officer of New South Wales on the east coast of Australia set off a frenzy among conspiracy theorists when she gave an update Thursday on a live TV conference. Dr. Kerry Chant has said that covid-19 will be with us forever and people will have to get used to a “new world order” that includes perpetual booster shots.

The New World Order is a popular and unfounded conspiracy theory that claims a secretive group of global elites puppeteer governments around the world in order to push agendas to limit individual freedoms, Newsweek reported.

Dr. Chant said, “We will be looking at what contact tracing looks like in the new world order. Yes, it will be pubs and clubs and other things if we have a positive case there.”

She added: “Our response may be different if we know that people are fully vaccinated. So, we’re working through a number of those issues.”

In response to her comments, “new world order” became a trending topic on Twitter in the U.S., U.K. and Australia.

Twitter shared this disclaimer: “Unfounded claims about the ‘New World Order’ conspiracy theory are shared after an Australian government official used the expression during a press conference on Thursday. Fact-checkers have regularly debunked claims connected to the conspiracy theory. The phrase is commonly used to describe times of cultural change or cultural shift.”

As a public health doctor, Dr. Chant has said she would want diseases to be totally eliminated but it seems covid-19 is here to stay, adding that “booster doses and repeat doses will be part of it.”

Booster shots are an extra dose of a vaccine given to maintain vaccine-induced protection against disease. They are commonly used to bolster many vaccines because immunity can wear off over time.

For instance, flu vaccines need booster shots every year, and diphtheria and tetanus vaccines must be boosted every 10 years.

Chant’s comments come after the super-vigilant Australian government announced that it will maintain a strict lockdown as it deals with a new outbreak of the fast-spreading delta variant — its first virus outbreak in six months.

Last month, the Australian government imposed a lockdown of at least three days across the country and at least seven days in Auckland and Coromandel.

The Australian government has focused on vigilant testing, tracing and quarantining as key to fighting the pandemic — a response that’s seen as a model for other countries, Forbes reported.

“I can assure you that the commonwealth government has purchased large quantities of vaccine into 2022 and this will be a regular cycle of vaccination as we learn more about when immunity wanes,” Chant said.

Chant warned Aussies that they should not be talking to their friends and neighbors, even if they were wearing a mask.

In a separate response to a reporter, Chant said that people “will be getting vaccinated regularly” against covid-19.

Critics of Australia’s pandemic policies say the government’s endless lockdowns have turned the country into a “prison island” with no escape in sight.

Anyone who challenges the policy via protests faces fines of up to $11,000 dollars. Police have made home visits to people who promote anti-lockdown demonstrations via social media.
