President Mahama Confident About Ghana’s 2014 Development

Addressing media at The Flagstaff House, president Mahama said anti-terrorism strategies cannot be dismissed — although Ghana has been fortune enough to not be the target of direct terrorism attacks. The government is still prepping plans to fight possible attacks in addition to outlining framework for development in the new year, according to a My Joy Online report.

“It’s something we need to discuss and think about ways and means to prevent it, not only within our country, but within our sub-region, within our continent and all over the world. The way to do that is not to be afraid to talk about it,” president Mahama said about terrorism on Tuesday.

“We have a deficit of energy; we currently have an installed capacity of 2,800 MW. Our demand for power is rising by six to seven percent every year. So, you need to put in more energy generation. Government does not have the investment to be able to do it,” he added.

Mahama noted in his speech that the government needs help from the private sector for infrastructure projects like these. However, in order for private sector investors to benefit financially, tariffs must be adjusted.
