South Sudan Unrest Affects Ugandan Traders, Economy

The Kampala government has issued a warning to Ugandan citizens living in South Sudan. Ugandans hiding in villages have been urged to gather in a central location for evacuation, Press TV reported. While preventing deaths of Ugandan citizens is said to be priority for the government, traders in South Sudan and Uganda are growing angry over monetary loss and a halt in business.

“What has happened in South Sudan is most unfortunate,” Amelia Kyambadde, Uganda trade minister said in the report. “It’s a tragedy, because it has been our main trade destination.”

“Unfortunately, there have been unverified reports of some Uganda casualties,” Fred Opolot, Uganda Foreign Ministry Spokesman added.
