DRC Refugees Welcomed in Uganda Following ADF Attack

On Christmas day, insurgents from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) raided the DRC town of Kamango killing 10 government soldiers and 26 civilians NTV Uganda reported. Houses were burned down, shops and health facilities were looted. In addition, insurgents stole weapons from the DRC government soldiers.

“We’re in control of the border. Our border-line forces are in place to avert any infiltration of the ADF insurgents,” a Uganda security official told NTV Uganda.

Screening and transferring of the more than 1,000 refugees was a successful process as sister organizations and the UN offered help.

The rescued refugees will remain in a transit center in Uganda’s Bundibugyo district. NTV Uganda also reported that ADF insurgents have retreated.
