UN Program Ushers South African Women Into Politics

The United Nations will head a new program which encourages women to participate in politics and government, CCTV Africa reported. Small organizations like Gender Links works with women in the community, helping them to combat issues like gender-based violence to eventually build up the confidence to participate in larger programs such as the politics-driven initiative led by the UN.

“The program is to look at how to empower women and how to support women in terms of the policy making processes in the country,” Babtunde Omilola, UNDP senior economic advisor said in the video.

“It’s also about ensuring that women have voices and they are represented in the legislative bodies in the country,” he said.
