World Bank: Cape Verde Comes In Third Among Portuguese-language Countries For Small Business Regulation

From Asemena

Cape Verde is one of the three best-placed Portuguese-speaking countries in the World Bank’s “Doing Business” study in terms of regulation related to small and mid-sized private businesses. Portugal leads the list of Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) list, followed by Brazil.

The ranking measures and identifies changes in regulations related to small and mid-sized businesses operating in the main economic area of each of the countries, and is intended as an indicator of improvement in regulation rather than of decreased regulation. The study covers a total of 189 economies.

Among CPLP member states, Portugal is the highest ranked, in 31st place, followed by Brazil (116th), Cape Verde (121st) and Mozambique (139th). Further down the list come São Tomé and Príncipe (169th place), East Timor (172nd), Angola (179th) and Guinea Bissau (180th).

The worldwide ranking is topped by Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand, followed by the United States and Denmark. The Republic of Congo (185th), South Sudan (186th), Libya (187th), the Central African Republic (188th) and Chad (189th) are at the bottom of the list.
