Actress To Launch Magazine In Nigeria

After starts and stops and threats of lawsuits, Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda announced her plans to launch her magazine in Nigeria in November. She made the announcement at the Fashion and Champagne VIP event held over the weekend at the Villa Monticello Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

Chinda hopes to launch the publication, which is self-titled “Monalisa,” in Nigeria the first week of November, and in Ghana in December, as reported in Vanguard.

“…Monalisa magazine is a big project,” said Chinda. “I had to come with my team to get content for the magazine and also source for a venue for the launch.”

In September, journalist Kelvin Keshi threatened to sue Chinda and her partner, sometime-boyfriend Lanre Nzeribe, over alleged failure to pay him and other breach-of-contract issues. As reported in a Sept. 20 All Africa article, Keshi said he had been working with the couple since April, editing articles for the magazine’s premier issue, and had yet to see payment.

Many times they worked until late in the evening, determining the publication’s mission, demographics, themes and more. Yet, Keshi claimed, Lanre appeared to want to use his expertise to set up the magazine and then let him go, all without payment.

Chinda didn’t discuss the publication’s rocky start, the lawsuit, or even her intended plans for the magazine’s content.

The popular Nigerian-born actress has starred in numerous movies. According to NaijaGists, she received the City People Face of Nollywood Award in 2011, and the 2011 ZAFAA award for best actress in a comedy series. She also began producing movies, starting in 2011 with “Kiss and Tell.” In 2012 she moved into TV production with the soap opera series, “Catwalq.”
