Some TV characters are memorable for funny facial hair or a catch phrase, but these fictional foodies captured our hearts with their favorite—albeit strange—snacks. We wouldn’t mind trying some of these ourselves!
Ron Swanson: “The Swanson”
Ron Swanson turns his nose up at vegetarians and vegetables in general, eating a diet that consists mainly of steak, whiskey, and of course “The Swanson.” This cholesterol-crazy item is a turkey leg wrapped in bacon. If you don’t make a whole turkey yourself, another place to grab one might be at a Renaissance fair.
Liz Lemon: Cheesy Blasters
Liz Lemon, famous emotional eater, is an expert on foods that will make you question your life decisions the next day. One of these binge bites is cheesy blasters: hot dogs covered in Jack cheese and wrapped in pizza.
Laverne & Shirley: Milk and Pepsi
Two TV icons of their time would of course raise two food items of their time to celebrity status: milk and Pepsi. Today, with all we know about the risks of sugar consumption and the theory that everybody is lactose intolerant, it would be hard to get a restaurant to put this duo on the menu. But it somehow looks totally harmless when Laverne & Shirley sip on it.
Doctor Who: Fish Fingers and Custard
Doctor Who didn’t do much for the U.K.’s reputation for odd food when he came up with this combo. In his very first appearance on the show, the doctor rushed frantically around a kitchen looking for something he needed urgently: fish fingers dipped in custard.
iCarly: Spaghetti Tacos
Ten points to iCarly for putting together two of the greatest foods on the planet. As for health points…well, let’s just hope their show’s young demographic isn’t as easily influenced as we think.
Lucy Ricardo: Sardines and Ice Cream
It’s tough to choose just one of the many crazy foods Lucy hilariously scarfs down, but we had to go with her famous pregnancy craving for sardines and ice cream. More specifically, a hot fudge sundae with the salty fish. So that item just became warm, gooey and chocolaty. Even though pairing savory things like chili and salt with chocolate has become popular, it’s hard to imagine fish chocolate bars hitting Whole Foods any time soon.
Worf: Prune Juice
Prune juice isn’t such an odd item, but Worf doesn’t drink it throughout the “Star Trek” series for its digestive benefits: he drinks it because he considers it “a warrior’s drink.” Senior citizens pouring it into their porridge probably beg to differ.
Dave Lister, “Red Dwarf”: Vindaloo
The main character in this space comedy loves spicy food, especial chicken vindaloo. But his love goes beyond the occasional lunch: he drinks vindaloo sauce, cold, for breakfast!
Charlie: Milk Steak
“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” character Charlie is known for putting all sorts of things in his mouth that he probably shouldn’t, including cat food. This one makes the cut as “real food”: milk steak. The dish is actually common in the Southern states and is just a deep-fried breaded cube steak smothered in a thick milk-based gravy. It’s hard to determine how born-and-raised Philadelphian Charlie ever discovered the item, or came to eat it regularly.
Abby: Caf Pow
“NCIS’s” darkly sexy forensic scientist Abby Sciuto can’t get through a day without her Caf Pow. We’re not sure if such a drink exists, but it’s a caffeinated, red, fruity energy drink served in a giant, gas station-type plastic sippy cup.
