Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is trying to take the “Chicken Sandwich Wars” to the next level with its latest creation. The fast food chain is testing a new chicken and donuts combination, reported Business Insider.

The chain announced its latest menu item would hit select restaurants for a limited time Tuesday. According to New York (NY) Daily News, KFC will test the combo for a limited time at more than 40 locations in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Customers will be able to choose from two options: a chicken sandwich made of a chicken patty with doughnuts for buns or a basket comprised of either bone-in chicken or chicken tenders and doughnuts. The sandwich is $5.99 individually and $7.99 for the combo and the basket is $5.49 individually and $7.49 for the combo.

In a press release, KFC said they are bringing “two American classics together,” but the concept of sweets on their menu is not new.

“KFC is no stranger to delicious food combinations and sweet deals, most recently introducing the limited-time offerings of Cinnabon Dessert Biscuits this past May, Kentucky Fried Chicken & Waffles in November 2018, and currently offering free chocolate cake with the purchase of a 10-piece meal at participating restaurants.”

The Case Against John Ali: Jamarlin Martin goes solo to discuss Malcolm X and actual facts concerning the allegations that John Ali, the former national secretary of the Nation of Islam, was an operative of the FBI or U.S. intelligence agencies.

They added they are always looking for creative ways to serve customers.

“As part of its food innovation strategy, KFC is always looking for ways to serve its customers with new delicious and innovative choices. The Chicken & Donuts trend has been gaining popularity, but mostly on a local level in areas like Philadelphia, San Diego and Portland,” the release further stated.

If the test goes well, the chain said they would consider releasing the chicken and doughnuts menu items nationally. When fast foodies chimed in, some were excited to try KFC’s new menu items, while others thought it would be gross. Others called the chicken and donuts a health risk.

Two members of the Eezy Gang in Houston, Texas even created what they dubbed the “Ghetto Version” of KFC’s new chicken sandwich by purchasing KFC chicken littles, removing the buns and adding Krispy Kreme glazed donuts since the items are not being offered in their area.

They loved it! However, to each’s own. Doughnut burgers are widely enjoyed across the country so KFC might be on to something. Road trip, anyone? Or maybe try the “Ghetto Version” like the Eezy Gang. Maybe leave it alone altogether. One thing is for sure, Black Twitter will give its verdict whatever the choice.
