Of The 10 Fastest-Growing U.S. Jobs, 7 Pay Less Than $34,000 A Year
Most of the fastest-growing jobs in the U.S. pay less than a living wage, with seven of them earning an average of $34,000 a year, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Employment is expected to grow at a rate of 0.5 percent with about 8.4 million new jobs created between 2018 and 2028. That is slower than the 0.8 percent annual payroll growth in the previous decade.
Most of the new growth jobs will not be in tech but rather focused on occupations including home health aide and personal care aide.
More than 1 million new health care aides will be needed over the next decade in addition to the 3.2 million already in the field, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported.
Visions of a robot-filled future are just not going to be a reality any time soon as new jobs would need more personal attention than automation.
A report by global consulting firm McKinsey, titled “The future of work in America: People and places, today and tomorrow“, found that “Automation is not happening in a vacuum, and the health of local economies today will affect their ability to adapt and thrive in the face of the changes that lie ahead.”
