Jamarlin Martin Set To Headline Black Owned Media Alliance Symposium

All aspects of Black media, including digital and cultural reach, will be highlighted at the BOMA Symposium — the Black Owned Media Alliance’s annual Get to Know Black Media forum. In its fourth year, the symposium will convene starting at 8 a.m. July 24 at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, 212 NE 59th Terrace, in Miami.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jamarlin Martin of Moguldom Media, considered a pioneer and thought leader in digital media. Martin is the founder and CEO of Nubai Ventures and the creator of the GHOGH with Jamarlin Martin’s podcast. He grew Moguldom Media Group into a multiple-brand digital media and entertainment platform, selling three brands to NASDAQ-listed Urban One: UONEK.

BOMA highlights Black media to those who make decisions about public and media relations, marketing, ad buyers, as well as corporate communications, whether in industry or private firms. Additionally, BOMA members are committed to providing accurate, fair and balanced coverage.

Jamarlin talks to Alfred Liggins, CEO of Urban One (NASDAQ: UONEK) about why he never merged with BET and whether going public inspired the Fox series “Empire”. They discuss the Democratic Party neglecting Black media when it comes to campaign ad spending, and the disconnect between Black CEOs and Obama.

Melissa Hunter Davis, BOMA events chairwoman, said, the goal of the symposium is to provide those agencies with information on new opportunities in the Black market and to make sure that BOMA is considered the expert in regards to reaching the Black community.

“We will open [agencies] up to the opportunities that we have within our group and with others who may not be associated with us but are in the same field,” Hunter Davis said.

Attendees can expect to hear from panelists who will discuss advertising campaign activations crafting inclusive messages and marketing to Black women.

Hunter Davis said the “How to Craft your Messaging to be Inclusive” panel will show to avoid damaging relationships with the very audience you are trying to reach.

“The purpose of the panel is to teach organizations how to communicate with a Black audience without offending them and using words and imagery that are steeped in races practices,” she said.

The symposium has evolved from a one-panel discussion at Florida Memorial University to the current day-long program. Since 2015, past attendees include The Wow Factor, RBB, Sonshine Communications, Freez Frame Media, Baptist Health, Adrienne Arsht Center, Armstrong Creative Consulting, KricKrack Media, Pantin/Beber Silverstein Advertising, McGill and Associates, U.S. Department of Transportation and Nielsen.

Registration is required to attend BOMA’s annual symposium on July 24. Log on to 2019BOMASymposium.eventbrite.com to register.
