When a White House counselor used sexist language to mock the tension between freshmen Democrats and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.),
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) clapped back, and Twitter is loving it.

On Tuesday, Trump surrogate Kellyanne Conway called the tension between Pelosi and four other high-profile female Democratic congresswomen a “major meow moment” and a “huge catfight.” Those are two sexist phrases used to characterize arguments between women, HuffPost reported.

Pelosi has been in conflict with “The Squad” — Pressley and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.). All four recently voted against an immigration bill that gives billions of dollars to Border Patrol and ICE — Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Both agencies are under fire for the horrific conditions at migrant detention centers.

Some House liberals have been angry with Pelosi after she surrendered to Republicans and Democratic moderates and agreed to pass the bill to send more funding to the border, New York Times reported. Pelosi has been accused of caving to Republicans on legislative decisions like this one, giving up demands for better protection of migrant children trapped in shelters.

Ninety-five House Democrats voted against the bill including Pressley, Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, and Tlaib on the grounds it continued funneling money to ICE and Customs and Border Protection.

In an interview with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, Pelosi was asked about a headline of the day — “What The Hell Is Nancy Pelosi Doing?” The article described the outrage of the Squad.

“Pelosi feels that the four made themselves irrelevant to the process by voting against ‘our bill,’ as she put it, which she felt was the strongest one she could get,” Dowd wrote. Pelosi told Dowd, “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world but they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

“If the left doesn’t think I’m left enough, so be it,” Pelosi told Dowd.

Conway mocked the tension between Democrats on Fox and Friends. Then she tweeted about her “major meow” comment, added a cat emoji and tagged Pressley in the tweet.

Pressley ripped into Conway on Twitter, saying, “oh hi Distraction Becky. Remember that time your boss tore babies from their mothers’ arms and threw them in cages? Yeah take a seat and keep my name out of your lying mouth.”

Pressley’s tweet is boasting nearly 113,000 more likes than Conway’s, “so it’s safe to say this one didn’t go great for Conway,” Alyssa Vaughn wrote in Boston Magazine.
