2020 Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who had a breakout moment at the recent Democratic debates, has received an endorsement from Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Houston.

Green is going against two home-state Democrats and a fellow member of the Congressional Black Caucus by backing Harris and not 2020 frontrunner Joe Biden.

“Green, an eight-term congressman and one of the most outspoken advocates for impeaching President Donald Trump, is the first member of the Congressional Black Caucus to endorse a presidential candidate from outside of their home state — other than the handful of CBC officials who have come out for 2020 front-runner Joe Biden,” Politico reported.

They also discuss the #MeToo movement, racial bias in Facebook’s content policing, and Boyce‘s successful marketing strategy.

Green said Harris’ new immigration plan that creates a path to citizenship for Dreamers, as well as her work as state attorney general securing billions from banks in a foreclosure settlement were among his reasons for endorsing her. Green called Harris “one of the foremost opponents in the Senate to the corruption of this administration.“

“Kamala Harris represents the future of our nation,” he added.

With this move, Green became the first Black man in Congress to endorse Harris.

Voters seem to be impressed by Green’s move. As one person tweeted: “When you look at protecting women’s health and working to end America’s gun violence epidemic, @RepAlGreen has been at the forefront for years. Even at the cost of death threats and racist opposition.”

Soon after Green’s announcement, fellow Caucus member Lacy Clay also put her support behind Harris.

“Like Obama, I feel as though Kamala Harris is a transformative figure,” Clay said to CNN, explaining the timing of his endorsement. “I think the timing is right to signal to the people in my state — this is who I favor.”

However, other caucus members have been backing Biden. “Former Vice President Joe Biden has five endorsements from the caucus, as the 2020 Democratic hopefuls jockey for its members’ support,” CNN reported.

Biden remains the front-runner among African American voters in national polling.
