Social media is telling a German Instagram influencer couple how they really feel after the pair asked for nearly $11,000 to pay for a vacation to Africa.

Catalin Onc and Elena Engelhardt are on Instagram under the handle @another_beautiful_day_official. Known for posting pictures of their travels, they asked followers to support their GoFundMe so they could realize their dream to do a tandem bike ride from Germany to Africa in July, MSN reported.

They said funds would “go towards the bike and gear, food and accommodation (when needed), internet and sim cards in every country to keep you up to date, insurance, emergencies.”

In their IG post, they wrote “We hope you all enjoy and learn from us … TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.” Social media users did not respond kindly.

“Your mom works two jobs to pay for your trip, don’t you think that’s impacting her mental heath? It’s sad this isn’t all a joke, the self importance you have is ridiculous,” wrote one user. Another user commented “Go get a job.”

Still another, responded, “I literally never comment any negative opinions I have when it comes to the “artists” I follow on this platform, though I can’t help but wonder why in your instastory yesterday explaining your Africa trip, it mentioned y’all don’t want to model to earn the money because of not wanting to promote consumerism, but also “modeling” is still in the bio? I get y’alls message, and overall it’s a great one, but why stop taking modeling gigs when it could help finance your trip more than relying on the kindness of internet strangers? Honestly asking for money (when you have opportunities to earn it yourselves) to continue to provide content to your followers is still consumerism. I just don’t get it. If I’m just not understanding when the “mental health/climate change” support comes into play by tandem biking, then I’d love to understand.”

In response to the backlash, the couple posted a photo with a caption that included “some people are quick to judge and speak” but they are not hiding anything.
