Should Alabama Mayor Be Held Accountable For Facebook Post About Killing LGBTQ, Pro-Abortion And Socialists?

The mayor of a small, rural Alabama town is refusing to resign after coming under fire for posting comments to Facebook stating members of the LGBTQ community, pro-abortionists and socialists needed to be killed, CBS News reported.

Mark Chambers is the mayor of Carbon Hill, a city with less than 2,000 residents who are predominately white, reported NBC.

Earlier this month, WBRC-TV reported Chambers wrote in all capital letters, “We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics,” in a now-deleted Facebook post.

During a conversation in the comments with a Facebook friend who said he thought changing the country would take a revolution, Chambers responded, “The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it’s bad to say but without killing them out there’s no way to fix it.”

After first denying he wrote the remarks, Chambers apologized for his words and then deactivated his Facebook page.

“I and I alone am responsible for the comment that was made … Although I believe my comment was taken out of context and was not targeting the LGTBQ community, I know that it was wrong to say anyone should be killed,” Chambers wrote.

Despite being asked to resign by local politicians, Chambers said he has no intentions of resigning.
