Former Fugees member Pras Michel has been charged with campaign finance violations that allegedly happened during the 2012 U.S. presidential race.

Michel has declared he is “totally innocent” and plans on pleading his case via music.

Michel is working on a 9-track recording titled “Elon Musk,” to be released at the end of June. The tracks will address issues regarding his case.

Listen to GHOGH with Jamarlin Martin | Episode 51: Bärí A. Williams Jamarlin talks to tech attorney and diversity strategist Bärí Williams about her experience working at Facebook and whether Trump could be talking about Sen. Cory Booker when he claims he could blackmail a U.S. Senator. They also discuss some criticism of Sen. Kamala Harris that is “out of pocket.”

Here’s what happened: “Prosecutors accused Malaysian fugitive Jho Low of funneling $21.6 million to Michel, who in turn gave about $865,000 to some 20 people to donate to committees backing President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. The straw donors hid the foreign source behind the contributions, a violation of U.S. campaign finance rules, the government said. (Musk has no involvement in the case.),” Bloomberg reported.

Now, Pras wants to tackle these pretty serious allegations on his new album.

“According to the allegations in the complaint, Michel and [former Justice Department official George Higginbotham] defrauded U.S. financial institutions and laundered millions of dollars into the United States as part of an effort to improperly influence the Department’s investigation into the massive embezzlement and bribery scheme involving 1MDB,” Assistant Attorney General Benczkowski said in 2018, as reported by Complex. “The Criminal Division and our law enforcement partners will do everything we can to trace, seize, and forfeit the proceeds of foreign corruption that flow through the U.S. financial system.”

Michel has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, making false statements, and making false entries.  Meanwhile, Low has disappeared.
