A job ad placed on LinkedIn by a tech recruiting company recently caused a firestorm on Twitter. And now the Sterling, Virginia-based company has apologized on after a job listing posted online said white people were preferred for the position.
Cynet Systems has since acknowledged it was responsible for the “offensive job post.” The post said that a “preferably Caucasian” candidate with technical background knowledge of Robotics Process Automation with eight to 10 years of experience should apply for the mid-senior level, full-time position, Fox News reported.

Co-CEO Cynet Ashwani Mayur said in a statement that the employees responsible for the job posting had been fired, adding that the way the posting was written was against company policy.
“We understand why some may have been upset seeing this listing, because we were too. It is a long-standing policy for our company to refuse any request to list jobs only seeking candidates of any specific ethnicity, gender, or other inappropriate restrictions, and we will turn clients down if they demand requirements of this type be included,” he continued.
LinkedIn said the “preferably Caucasian” ad was taken down as soon as it was discovered.
“Discrimination of any kind is against our policies and we have no tolerance for it on our platform,” LinkedIn said in a statement. “We have dedicated teams and technical measures in place to identify content that violates our policies; they took quick action to remove the job posting.”
The apology wasn’t enough for many. And those offended by the post took the Twitter to complain. “Anyone else tired of these companies doing this,” then apologizing, one Twitter user posted, “and claiming it ‘does not reflect our core values.’ Just excuses. If the above is true how did this even happen?! Did the person who posted it not read it before posting?!”
So Cynet issued another apology that said: “We understand why some may have been upset seeing this listing, because we were, too.” The statement said the company was reviewing all current and upcoming job ads “to ensure no similar issues exist,” and exploring strategies to “help us catch offensive or out-of-policy ads.”
“Further, Cynet Systems is itself proud to be an immensely diverse company. Both of our owners are Indian-Americans, our workforce is over 60 percent minority and we are certified as a diversity supplier by the National Minority Supplier Development Council,” the statement said.
It is actually illegal to post such ads.
“Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 ‘makes it illegal to discriminate against a person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin,’ according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission,” NBC News reported.
