Openly gay presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is in the spotlight once again this week after Virginia pastor, Bishop Earl Walker (E.W.) Jackson, said he would turn America into a “homocracy” if elected. Jackson made the comments on his radio show “The Awakening” Tuesday, Newsweek reported.

Jackson said if Buttigieg is elected he believes he will crack down on Christians and prohibit their freedom of speech by forcing them to use politically-correct pronouns and limit their ability to profess their biblical beliefs in public.

“I know that as much as these LGBT activists say that I want a theocracy, which I don’t because I don’t want to punish them or put them in jail for what they are doing, I want to see them converted. But I guarantee they would love to see you or me punished or put in jail. You know what, we don’t want a theocracy, but I guarantee you, they want a homocracy,” Jackson said.

Despite Jackson’s position, Buttigieg is among the top three Democratic contenders for president based on an online survey from Change Research behind Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders, reported Dead State.

Jackson, a Republican, ran for U.S. Senate in 2012, lieutenant governor against current Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam in 2013 and tried for the Senate again in 2018, reported the Washington Blade.

He has been very vocal about his stance on LGBTQ issues before.
